PROGRAMS
Your membership and contributions are used
to help care for our homeless animals as well as
to manage adoption services that find them loving homes.
Your support also provides for our special programs.
S.N.I.P. (Spay/Neuter Incentive Program)
Our S.N.I.P. program was established in 1994 to
assist pet owners who wish to have their pets spayed or neutered
but cannot afford the cost.
S.N.I.P. is funded through donations and money raised
from our fundraisers. An average of 124 dogs and cats per month
have been altered in Lake Havasu City and the Mohave County area,
In the five years since the start of the program, over
7000 companion animals have been spayed or neutered.
We are grateful to the dedicated veterinarians in
Lake Havasu, Kingman, Bullhead City and Mohave Valley
without their help there would be no S.N.I.P. Program.
SHARE
This program was started several years ago at an annual dinner.
The goal of this program is to match up companion animals
with handicapped citizens. The shelter staff will help the handicapped
person pick a pet that will be compatible and one they will be
able to care for. All fees for the animal's adoption and
spay/neuter are paid from a SHARE fund of money
donated for this purpose. The only cost to the new owner
is the license fee if needed.
PURINA PETS FOR PEOPLE
This very worthwhile program is on-going.
It allows us to match companion animals with lonely senior citizens.
Everyone has heard of the many benefits of pet ownership,
especially for seniors. The $1000 donated by Purina each year
enables us to help 20 pets find new homes. Along with the
adoption fee and spay/neuter fee, the new pet owner
receives a training video, pamphlets, dishes and a leash.
CHESTER FUND
The Chester Fund was established in late 1997 when
a young dachshund was brought to us from Mohave County
Rabies Control. The dog was a stray that had been found in
the Kingman area with a broken leg. Her was brought to
us in hope we could have his leg fixed and find him a new home.
The break was severe and required extensive surgery to repair.
While his leg was being set we had him neutered and his teeth cleaned.
The expenses were paid with donations we had received for this
little dog we named Chester. Chester was placed in a
new home shortly after his surgery. His new family says he
is a wonderful happy little guy. Without the donations received
from concerned animal lovers, he would not have had this chance.
Through ongoing donations to the Chester Fund, we have been able
to help other adoptable pets in need of medical help.
It's their second chance - a chance for their wounds to be
healed and a chance to be adopted to new loving homes.
LAP (Lend A Pet)
Conducts regular visits to local nursing homes, allowing residents
to play and interact with puppies and kittens.
