DUCK DERBY 2000 A BIG SPLASH On a beautiful Lake Havasu sunny Saturday, Duck Derby 2000 hit the channel with over 2800 adopted rubber duckies. The race was exciting, down to a photo finish before the winners were announced. What an exciting day. First place winner, Barbara Thompson from Lake Havasu City, was in the audience to collect her $1000 cash. Second place winner, Frank Kastelz, Lake Havasu City won $250 and third place winner Shirley Estes won $100. Last year's winner, Sharon Henry from Kingman placed last, with a $50 prize.

Thanks to Signature Sponsors Bennett & Company, Eyes of Arizona, Hellwing Financial Services and Mohave State Bank all cost for the event were underwritten, leaving over $20,000 to help the homeless animals and provide low-cost spay-neuter procedures for income eligible families.

Not to be outdone by their little siblings, the Corporate Duck Race was a display of creativity and color. Every imaginable type of duck was represented with over 90 businesses getting into the race. Congratulations to Animal Hospital of Havasu who outpaced the fast pack. Other activities included a coloring contest sponsored by English Village Merchants Association, Service Club Challenge Race (way to go London Bridge Lions with the most ducks and Golden K Kiwanis with 1st place), and the Parks & Recreation Department Starline Afterschool Program Race. From the looks of the spectators, it was an event not miss thanks to the special efforts of American Graphics, CableVision, City of Lake Havasu, Goodtime DJ's, London Bridge Resort, Natural Tease and all of our dedicated volunteers.
