Here is a typical simulated diamond ring; the stone is a cubic zirconium, which has a hardness of about 8 on a scale of 10 and a very high refractive index. The stone is mounted on gold bonded jeweler brass and is of the thickness of 30 mills of gold. With these specifications you are looking at the highest quality of costume jewelry.
The next highest grade is called vermeil and the mounting would be gold bonded at about 100 mills and the base metal would be silver. Stones are of the same quality
Finally we have 14 carrot gold mountings and a high quality diamond.
Retail prices are somewhat as follows:
Costume jewelry $10 to $40
Vermeil jewelry $80 to $300
Fine jewelry $1,500 per carat
Wholesale prices are:
Costume jewelry $50 to $500 per dozen
Vermeil $500 to$3,000 per dozen
Fine jewelry $300 per carat
We have some really big customers who before buying from us were paying up to $500 a dozen for their costume jewelry who now buy better quality merchandise for $50 a dozen. Some of these customers had been in the business for 20 years before discovering what they should pay for their merchandise.
We also carry a large inventory of costume jewelry pins with simulated diamond (rhinestone settings) and fine quality crystal stones in addition to our enameled pieces. Our quality cannot be equaled and prices are lower than even the largest wholesaler in the United States.
