Navajo Wedding VaseWedding vases were widely used among Indians throughout the Southwest.  Many believed that the Medicine Man would prepare a special potion for the young lovers which signified the promise of deep love and eternal happiness for the couple.
The Brave and Maiden then sealed the promise by drinking the potion simultaneously from the vase, each using one spout.  In some cases the vase was broken and pieces were scattered about the dwelling to assure them good fortune.
Wedding vases thus became a symbol of love and happiness and remain so to this day.
