Mohave County Genealogical
Society
|
The Society, founded in 1978, has three major
purposes:
- To collect, preserve and disseminate knowledge and
information with
reference
to genealogical and related historical, biographical and heraldic data.
- To promote and sustain interest in the study of these
fields.
- To pool interests and aid individual Society members.
The Society is a registered non-profit organization supported by
membership
dues and the sale of certain documents created by the Society's
members.
The Society is not affiliated with the Mohave County Historical
Society,
Inc., or the Mohave Museum of History and Arts.

genealogical
societies.

- Occasional speakers invited by the Society.

of the Society.
Society Meetings
The Society holds a public meeting on the second
Wednesday of each month
at 1:00 p.m.
Supporting the Museum
The Museum has collected and is preserving records and photographs
relating to the genealogical, economic and social history of
Northwestern Arizona and especially Mohave County. The records are for
the most part unique and exist no where else.
The Genealogical Society began the effort to organize and catalog the
records in computer files. The first records were of burials in
Mountainview Cemetery. These burials included previously undocumented
graves of people moved from the old Pioneer Cemetery which was located
where the current Kingman High School Downtown is situated.
The effort started by the Genealogical Society has spawned a major
collection of data which, as of the beginning of 2004, includes some
half a million records. These records are an index to the documents and
photographs preserved by the Museum.
The databases in which this information is stored can be searched by an
ingenious program in a matter of seconds. A researcher can request a
search for a persons name, the name of a place or a thing such as a
dam. The Search Program generates a report showing the source of the
data.
More data is being continuously added to the databases. Currently the
data are being stored in the following files:
