ARTISTS OF THE MONTH

December 1999
Kathy Ward

Kathy was born at Yankton, South Dakota and spent her early years on a farm in Minnesota.  She moved to Sepulveda, California, with her family when she was in her teens, in 1955 she moved to Kingman, Arizona.

An early interest in art was not pursued until she had raised her three children.

Kathy started her art with sculpturing using papier-mâché and clay as a medium, later while attending classes at Mohave Community College she sculptured in silver and bronze using the lost wax method and sand casting.

An interest in painting developed along the way using mediums of oil, acrylic, and watercolor.  Art classes at Mohave Community College and private lessons helped sophisticate her natural interest and talent.

Kathy has taught physical fitness and art at M.C.C. and she was an art instructor at the Kathryn Heidenreich Adult Center for several years.

An example of her interest in the community and south west art can be seen at the Mohave Museum Ranch display and the Indian Room display case backgrounds paintings
