ARTIST OF THE MONTH

November 2002
Nicole Petculescu

Nicole Petculescu has always been fascinated with art.  Nicole's parents were also artistic and helped feed her hunger for art.  She came to the United States for freedom and for the opportunities to express herself artistically.

Natives of Romania, Nicole’s family first moved to Chicago, and after nine years, they relocated to Kingman, finding a warmer climate and slower pace of life in which to raise three children.  In addition, Nicole found the outlet she needed to express her creativity.  She began painting in 1984 under the instruction of Dick Bass.  She received an Associate of Arts degree from Mohave Community College, studying under Bob Gerring, Mildred Wheeler, and others.

Nicole has been a resident of Kingman for 20 years.  In addition to being an accomplished artist she is an established business woman.  In 1989 Nicole received the 'Woman Making History In Business" award from the Museum of History and Arts.  In 1991 she received Andy Devine award for Student of the Year at Mohave Community College.

Nicole's multiple talents Include: Painting, making jewelry, ceramics and crocheting.  She says she enjoys ceramics the most, as it affords her the opportunity to take her mind off everything else.

" I feel like I put heart and soul into my art and I get completely absorbed in the moment"
"Every time I hold a paintbrush or handle a piece of clay, I feel at peace."
