Nikon Coolpix 900 Sample Images

6/2/98

A few of these images are straight out of the camera, but most have been sampled down from 1280 x 960. (I'm really getting short on space here!) Still getting used to the camera, don't expect too much.

How'd you like to have that drive ahead of you?

One of my drive-by shots, about 35mph. The car behind was getting impatient--they want me to speed and shoot at the same time? Good thing I used the infinity focus.

Don't know why I included this one. It was shot while driving into the sun with a very dirty windshield (bugs). The sun was at an angle that made it difficult to see clearly. Anyway, I used the infinity focus to get what I could.

This is what I use as a lens cover. It's a 35mm film canister lid, put on backwards (it works). I don't know the brand, but maybe you'll recognize it from this pic. (UPDATE: I received e-mail indicating that this lid is from Agfa film.)

Took this from a commuter plane, and it's straight out of the camera. Contrast was not great, but look at the next shot to see what "Auto Levels" did in PhotoShop. (I was about to delete this image, without even trying to edit it, thinking it would have been futile.)

NIKP0268.JPG

1280 x 960
Same shot as previous, with "Auto Levels" applied. Note that the increased contrast brought out some noise, but this image is much more accurate. I was amazed at the vibrancy that PhotoShop brought out. Further editing (or manual color control) would likely have turned out better results.

Another aerial shot, straight from camera. Naturally, I used infinity focus for these shots.

NIKP0274.JPG
379 Kb
1280 x 960
Same shot as previous, with "Auto Levels" applied. Note that these aerial shots were shot through multiple layers of pretty hazy, thick, plexi-glass. I should note that, I could easily have manually adjusted the levels/curves, with probably better results, but I wanted to show the dramatic difference Auto Levels achieved.
