Being
a native of Kingman, Arizona, Kay Ellermann's love for the southwest
and her growing fascination for the historical legacy
of its land and people have added an impelling new dimension to her
paintings.
Deeply moved by the spiritual heritage of the
American Indians, Kay's realistic still lifes of Indian pottery and
baskets, offer a revealing glimpse into the inherent esthetics of these
time honored people.
Along with Southwest history, Kay decided to
express
on canvas her love of nature and wildlife which covers flowers, animals
and
birds.
The birds in Kay's paintings predominate. She
wants the subject to receive full attention, the background does not
distract
from the birds. They are sharp with great detail and seem to jump off
the
canvas.
This versatile artist works in oils, acrylics, pen
and ink, charcoal, pastels and colored pencils. She is a charter
member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and the Arizona Chapter
of Colored Pencil. Kay does some medical and scientific
illustrating through
the Guild of Natural Scientific Illustrators based in Washington, D.C.
and
is historian and past president of the Mohave Artists and Craftsmen's
Guild
of Kingman, Arizona.
Kay works out of her home studio which is open on
an
appointment basis.
